Space bank

Space is a fully digital bank created by TBC Bank, the largest financial institution in Georgia. No branches. No paperwork. No waiting. Everything from opening an account to getting a loan happens on your phone, in under a minute. Built for a young, mobile-first generation, Space became the country's dominant digital bank with 5.7 million monthly active users across Georgia and Uzbekistan.

Banking in Georgia was stuck in the Jurassic era

In 2018, there was no digital bank in Georgia. Want to open an account? Stand in line. Need a loan? Visit a branch. Banking actions required a physical visit. For a generation that grew up with smartphones, this was absurd. The incumbents had no reason to change. They were comfortable, slow, and frankly, dinosaurs.

A bank that looks
nothing like a bank

Everything was built around one core concept: three circles. Plus, every action that adds money to your account. Minus, every action that spends it. And in the center, your balance. That's it. The entire home screen of a banking app, reduced to three shapes and the only three things you actually care about: how much do I have, how do I add more, and how do I spend it.

This concept wasn't just a home screen. It became the foundation of the entire product architecture. Every flow in the app traced back to plus or minus.

Every flow, rethought from scratch

Before touching any component, I built the layer everything sits on. Spacing scale, corner radius system, typography, and a color system designed to work across every product Stori ships.

The key decision was making the entire system variable-based. Switch one token set and every component, color, icon, and illustration changes from Stori Card to Cuenta+ to whatever comes next. Designers don't rebuild. They switch context and keep working.

12 people became 200. One country became two

Space grew from a 12-person experiment to TBC's flagship digital product. As the team scaled past 200, the design system we built became the foundation, ensuring consistency across iOS, Android, and Web as the organization multiplied around us.

When Space expanded to Uzbekistan, we built a theming architecture that let the same product express a different visual identity per market. Same components, same patterns, different personality.

From pocket to desktop

As Space matured, users needed more: multi-account views, detailed transaction history, complex operations. I led the web banking experience, translating our mobile-first language to desktop without losing what made Space feel like Space.
